ROBREDO MOBILIZES LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO FIGHT DENGUE
By Jing Villamente, Correspondent
IN a bid to prevent the spread of dengue cases in the country, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo on Wednesday called on all governors, city and municipal mayors, barangay (village) chairmen and local health officers to clean up in their communities. Robredo enjoined the local officials to get rid of all potential breeding places of dengue-carrying mosquitoes in their areas of jurisdiction.
The local officials were also urged to enforce dredging of clogged canals, esteros and other waterways; pruning of thick bushes or tree branches; removing or draining of receptacles containing stagnant water; and holding of massive information drive on environmental control of breeding sites especially in endemic areas.
