OUR BOOKS ARE OPEN; OIL FIRMS AGREE TO PUBLIC ACCOUNTING

gasOil firms affiliated with the Philippine Institute Petroleum (PIP) have agreed to open their books of accounts for government examination, giving way to a call from President Benigno S. Aquino III to face public scrutiny amid suspicions that volatility in world marketprices had been exploited locally.

The announcement Sunday by the PIP came in the wake of reported investment pullout plans of the country’s two major industry players.
